MAS should promote Malaysia-made products on board its flights, says senator

KUALA LUMPUR, Dec 2 ― A senator today proposed that Malaysia Airlines (MAS), as the national carrier, promote Malaysia-made products on board its flights. 

Senator Datuk Dayang Madinah Tun Abang Openg said MAS could have a greater variety of meals on its in-flight menu and promote local snacks and handicraft products. 

“It can include snacks produced by our small and medium industries on the in-flight menu, for example banana fritters, to replace the salted groundnuts, with similar packaging. It can also have Sarawak layer cake on the menu as well,” she said.

Dayang Madinah was speaking during the debate on the Malaysian Airlines System Berhad (Administration) Bill 2014 in the Dewan Negara. The bill seeks to provide for the establishment of a new entity to replace Malaysian Airline System Bhd as the national carrier.       

She also said that MAS could promote Malaysian handicraft products, such as batik, by making 50 per cent of the items on its in-flight shopping list Malaysian products. ― Bernama
