KUALA LUMPUR, Dec 1 — Malaysians want to work for state-owned oil company Petronas the most, followed by Dutch energy company Shell, with Google Malaysia trailing behind, a survey found.

In a survey among 450 employees, JobStreet.com found that 18 per cent of the participants said they wanted to work for Petronas, 14 per cent Shell, and 8 per cent of them said Google Malaysia is their ideal company to work for.

Maybank and Sime Darby claimed the fourth and fifth spots respectively with 3 per cent each.

“According to the survey, salary is the prime reason candidates want to work for these companies.

“The reason is the same across all position levels, from fresh graduates to senior managers,” the online employment agency said in a statement.

Experienced candidates would opt for company reputation as their second preference when selecting a company to work for, it added.

Fresh graduates, however, would consider support and training as well as learning and development prospects as their second priority.

They see training as development opportunities to enhance their work skills for better prospects in the long run, according to the survey.

Benefits and incentives, quality of management as well as work environment or culture also made it to the top five reasons how fresh graduates and experienced rank desirable workplaces.

Given the chance to work for their preferred companies, 88 per cent of employees said they would tender their resignation at their current company.
