KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 13 — The government has so far spent more than RM33 million on the search and rescue operations for both MH370 and MH17, Parliament was told today.

Transport Minister Liow Tiong Lai said in a written reply to Tanjong MP Ng Wei Aik that 3,732 civil servants were also roped in to assist with the massive operations.

“Up till today, the government has spent RM33,461,861.50 to cover the search and rescue operations cost to recover MH370 and MH17,” he said.

He added that the search and recovery operations meanwhile were borne by the different countries involved.

Malaysia Airlines (MAS) flight MH370 which was en route from Kuala Lumpur to Beijing, China, fell off the radar on March 8 has yet to be found along with its 239 people aboard.

A massive search operation is on-going in the Indian Ocean off Australian waters.

MH17, another MAS plane was shot at over Ukraine airspace on July 17, taking the lives of all 298 aboard.

The plane en route from Amsterdam to Kuala Lumpur fell into an area controlled by pro-Russia rebels.
