SHAH ALAM, Sept 26 ― Selangor Mentri Besar Azmin Ali unveiled today his 10-man executive council (exco) line-up, reducing the number of seats offered to PAS from four to three.
He also offered the Islamist party the post of deputy speaker in the state legislative assembly, following the resignation of his PKR colleague, Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad.
“Nik Nazmi has resigned as Selangor deputy speaker. I have agreed that the post be held by PAS in representing Pakatan Rakyat (PR),” Azmin told a news conference here.
While DAP's exco list remains the same as those who served under Tan Sri Khalid Ibrahim, new PKR and PAS excos have been appointed as part of team Azmin.
This means the new party composition for the exco seats are 4-3-3 (PKR-DAP-PAS).
Azmin denied that the reduction in seats offered to PAS was a form of punishment over the party's previous support towards his predecessor, Tan Sri Khalid Ibrahim.
“This list is done after taking consideration the latest developments.
“This is the common understanding that has been reached... we hope to work as a strong team,” Azmin said.
The new Selangor excos are:
1. Elizabeth Wong (PKR)
2. Dr Daroyah Alwi (PKR)
3. Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad (PKR)
4. Amirudin Shari (PKR)
5. Datuk Teng Chang Khim (DAP)
6. Ean Yong Hian Wah (DAP)
7. V. Ganabatirau (DAP)
8. Iskandar Abdul Samad (PAS)
9. Dr Yunus Hairi (PAS)
10. Zaidy Abdul Talib (PAS)
Azmin said he will discuss and decide on the portfolios of the new exco members over the weekend with the Pakatan Rakyat (PR) leadership.
The 10 new exco members will be at the Istana Alam Shah this afternoon to be take their oath of office in front of the Selangor Sultan.
PKR deputy president Azmin was sworn in on Tuesday as Selangor’s 15th mentri besar.
He replaced Khalid who had held the post for more than six years from 2008.
Khalid’s administration has been long been criticised as “stingy” by his critics, especially those aligned to Azmin.
Azmin’s appointment put an end to a protracted crisis which has pitted PR allies PKR, DAP and PAS against each nother.
