SINGAPORE, Sept 24 – The Singapore Land Transport Authority (LTA) set out to deny recent media reports that suggest motorists would pay an increased toll charge when they enter the Malaysian Causeway Customs, Immigration, Quarantine (CIQ) only if they use the Eastern Dispersal Link (EDL) highway. The LTA has responded by saying that it is inaccurate, in a media statement released today.

The LTA spokesperson clarified that the Malaysian tolls are collected at the CIQ.

“All motorists who pass through the CIQ pay the increased Malaysian tolls, even if they do not use the EDL highway after exiting the CIQ. On the other hand, motorists who use the EDL highway but did not pass through the CIQ do not pay tolls. This means that the increased tolls are effectively Causeway tolls.”

The LTA spokesperson said that should Malaysia reduce or do away with the toll charges, Singapore will do the same.

“Singapore’s long-standing policy is to match Malaysia’s toll rates. This reflects the shared nature of the Causeway,” the LTA added. — Today
