KOTA KINABALU, July 3 — The Royal Malaysian Police (PDRM) is committed to hunt down individuals or groups suspected of being involved in militant activities.
Deputy Inspector-General of Police, Tan Sri Mohd Bakri Zinin said they will not compromise with militancy following the arrests in Kedah, Selangor, Perak and Sabah.
“The militant groups that we are monitoring are locals who received training in neighbouring countries for jihad.
“We are monitoring the groups including Sabah-based Darul Islam and are considering follow-up action(arrest) based on provisions of the law,” he told reporters after the presentation ceremony of Pingat Jasa Pahlawan Negara (PJPN), here today.
The medals for 201 former policemen who served during the Emergency period (1948-1974) was presented by the Yang Dipertua Negeri of Sabah, Tun Juhar Mahiruddin.
Meanwhile, Deputy Home Minister Datuk Dr Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar said PDRM could only act against militant activities based on concrete information received.
PDRM is only given 28 days to detain and interrogate suspects under the Security Offences (Special Measures) Act 2012 (Sosma) before being brought to court. — Bernama
