PETALING JAYA, June 17 — A mutton stall owner was wounded after he was shot twice by an unknown man behind the Kajang market yesterday.
Datuk Abd Ghani Abdullah, 50, was shot by a motorcyclist some 10m away while he was walking from his parked Mercedez Benz at Metro Point mall at about 6.30am.
Kajang police chief ACP Ab Rashid Ab Wahab said the first shot hit Abd Ghani on his left shoulder, and the second one narrowly missed his head, hitting him just below his right ear.
“The first shot went out through the left side of his neck, while the other pierced through the sheath of his right eye,” said Ab Rashid.
Police are looking for the gunman who sped off on his motorcycle after firing the shots.
Ab Rashid said Abd Ghani’s brother sent him to Hospital Kajang where he was being treated for the injury.
“The hospital has conducted a CT scan on his head to see if there is any damage to his brain,” he said.
“He is in a stable condition.”
Ab Rashid said the forensic team had recovered two bullet shells from the scene and police were studying the CCTV footage.
“The businessman does not have a criminal record,” he said.
He said the case was being investigated under Section 3 of the Firearms (Increased Penalties) Act 1971, for discharging a firearm with intent to cause death or hurt.
Police have recorded statements from witnesses and family members and are investigating the motive for the attack.
“So far we have recorded eight statements, and we will interview the victim’s brother soon,” said Ab Rashid who added that Abd Ghani’s brother is a policeman attached to the Kajang police station.
Ab Rashid said Abd Ghani’s employees had only good things to say about the man who was awarded the title ‘Datuk’ a few years ago.
