KUALA LUMPUR, April 22 — Singaporean authorities arrested a Malaysian man yesterday after he sought to evade the island republic’s Woodlands immigration stop.

In the fourth such incident involving a Malaysian this year, the 33-year-old was arrested as he attempted to manoeuvre his vehicle out of the checkpoint and triggered an alarm, according to The Straits Times.

“The car was stopped within the Checkpoint and the driver was placed under immediate arrest,” an Immigration and Checkpoints Authority spokesman told the Singapore daily.

The man did not possess valid travel documents at the time of his arrest.

Another Malaysian attempted the same eight days ago.

On March 8, a mental patient from Malaysia rammed a gantry at Woodlands in his attempt to barge through the checkpoint.

In January, a Malaysian teacher tried to ram her car past a security stop at the Singapore Ministry of Foreign Affairs. She was later determined to be suffering from mental health issues.

All four face possible fines of up to S$5,000 (RM12,980) or up to a year in jail for the offence.
