KUALA LUMPUR, April 11 — Australian Prime Minister Tony Abbott said today he was very confident the signals detected in the Indian Ocean belong to the missing Flight MH370’s black box.
“We have very much narrowed down the search area and we are very confident the signals are from the black box,” Abbott said from China, the Australian Broadcasting Corporation reported.
An earlier Twitter post from West Australian aviation editor Geoffrey Thomas ignited a blaze among Australian media.
“Black boxes of MH370 may have been found. PM to make announcement at 11.45am,” he tweeted.
Abbott, however, made no mention of it in his China media address and his aides said there was no conference planned for 11.45am either, the Sydney Morning Herald reported.
The Sydney-based daily also cited an unnamed representative for the Joint Agency Coordination Centre (JACC), which is led by Australia’s former defence chief Angus Houston, who declined to confirm the reports the black box may have been located.
“There’s no further update at this stage,” the JACC official was quoted saying, and added: “There’s nothing to report.”
