MUKAH, March 29 — Yussibnosh Balo may have just won a stiff contest for Balingian but is already firm on the ideas to build up the Sarawak state seat.
The Melanau Christian said his focus is on ensuring the family institution is given as much attention as the government works to further develop Balingian.
“Physical development may not be balanced, therefore we also want the people to be part of the development so that they would not be left out of the development efforts being brought in by the government,” he said in his first news conference this evening after beating out PKR challenger Abdul Jalil Bujang.
Yussibnosh had beat PKR’s 55-year-old candidate Abdul Jalil Bujang by a 6,911-vote margin in a straight fight for the seat once held by former Sarawak Chief Minister Tan Sri Taib Mahmud for over three decades.
Abdul Jalil gained 1,283 votes in the polls today.
The 48-year-old Yussibnosh also topped the number of votes Taib had received in the 2011 state election by 701 votes.
In a three-way tussle in 2011, Taib received 6,210 votes, followed by Independent candidate Datuk Salleh Jafaruddin’s 1,056 votes and PKR’s Suriati Abdullah’s 871 votes at the state election.
