KUALA LUMPUR, March 23 — A report of an alleged mystery phone call received by MH 370’s Captain Zaharie Ahmad Shah in the Daily Mail was refuted by police today, according to a report in the Star Online.
The Daily Mail reported that Captain Zaharie Ahmad Shah received a call from a phone number registered with a false identity minutes before he flew Malaysia Airlines Flight MH370 on March 8.The report stated that investigators were taking a closer look at the two-minute call which was made using a prepaid SIM card registered under a woman’s name. However further investigation revealed that the SIM was purchased in a shop selling prepaid SIM cards in Kuala Lumpur, using a false identity.
In a statement issued today, police stressed that the Inspector-General of Police has not treated the investigation of the missing aircraft as an act of terrorism.
Referring to the Daily Mail report, Bukit Aman Assistant chief of the Inspector-General of Police secretariat, Asst Comm Datin Asmawati Ahmad said the UK tabloid had no exclusive rights to the details of the investigations and denied all responsibility over the dissemination of information which originated from unnamed and unverified sources.
The UK tabloid also reported on speculation that the plane might have been hijacked by terrorist This speculation emerged after the Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar classified the case of the missing Malaysia Airlines flight MH370 as an act of terrorism, which also included hijacking and sabotage.
