KUALA LUMPUR, March 11 — Former transport minister Datuk Seri Ong Tee Keat questioned today the competence of the immigration department in allowing two Iranians with European passports to board the missing MH370 flight.
Ong also said that while the incident should be handled in a coordinated manner to assure the world of Malaysia’s crisis-handling capabilities, the officials’ contradicting statements had instead caused confusion.
“Many people all over the world might wonder how many imposters had indeed boarded the plane in the end. Was it four or two? Who can give the correct answers?” Ong said in a statement.
“I was given to understand that there are those out there who know it is quite easy through clandestine or nefarious means to slip through the system.”
Today is the fourth day since MH370 vanished from radar in the early hours of Saturday, March 8.
The Boeing 777-200 aircraft left Kuala Lumpur and was about 40 minutes into its journey to Beijing when it vanished from the skies with 239 people on board.
The aircraft was last seen on radar about 120 nautical miles from Kota Baru on Malaysia’s east coast.
