KUALA LUMPUR, Feb 25 — A dead duck was left outside the office of news portal Malaysiakini that was also splashed with blood-red paint this morning, reminiscent to a similar attack against DAP MP Teresa Kok last Wednesday.

The dead duck was contained in a box that was affixed with a photograph of the Seputeh federal lawmaker, and was placed outside the building currently housing the news portal’s operations in Bangsar Utama here.

In a report on its own website today, Malaysiakini graphic editor Azlan Zamhari was said to have discovered the items when he arrived at 6.15am.

“It was apparently thrown at the office using five plastic bags,” he said in the report.

Last Wednesday, a dead chicken was left outside Kok’s office that was also vandalised with red paint.

The incident last week followed a protest by the so-called “Council of Islamic NGOs” against a Chinese New Year video by Kok lampooning national affairs, which the group alleged was anti-Malay and Islam.

The protest saw the group slaughter two ‘live’ chickens before smearing the animals’ blood on a banner with the images of Kok and other Pakatan Rakyat leaders.

The news portal later lodged a report over the incident at the Brickfields district police headquarters at Jalan Travers.

“There is a closed-circuit television camera at the busy intersection outside the office. I hope it’s working,” Steven Gan, the portal’s editor-in-chief, said in the report.

Kok told The Malay Mail Online following the attack today that her picture affixed to the box containing the carcass was a clear indication that the perpetrators meant to link it to her video.

“I hope the police can take this incident and the incident of (the) dead chicken at my office staircase seriously,” Kok told The Malay Mail Online.

Aside from the protest, the “Council of Islamic NGOs” had also offered a cash reward of up to RM1,200 for anyone who managed to slap Kok and photograph the assault.

Home Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, however, dismissed calls to investigate the Muslim group’s threat of physical action against the Seputeh MP.

Kok has denied that her satirical video demeans Islam or ethnic Malays.
