KOTA BAHARU, Jan 12 — The number of flood victims in Kelantan rose dramatically to 1,188 tonight from 324 this afternoon.
According to the state government’s official portal, more victims had to be evacuated, particularly in Pasir Mas as the water level at Sungai Golok in Rantau Panjang had surpassed the danger level.
At 9.30pm, the water level at Sungai Golok in Rantau Panjang rose to 10.42 metres, 1.42 metres above the danger level.
It said Pasir Mas flood victims increased to 979 from 345 families compared to 37 this afternoon and they took refuge at four relief centres.
In Tanah Merah, 209 people from 56 families were sheltered at five relief centres.
Business was as usual at the Rantau Panjang duty-free zone even though part of the town was inundated.
The water level at other rivers in the state is receding as the weather was fine today.
No major roads were closed except for several alternative roads in Rantau Panjang like a road leading to Jeli in Lalang Pepuyu which is closed to light vehicles. — Bernama
