KUALA LUMPUR, Dec 24 — The president of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan has directed that US$10 million (RM 32.935 million) be allocated to help victims of the recent floods in Malaysia.
According to the UAE embassy in a statement to Bernama today, the initiative was a special aid to more than 20,000 victims of the big floods which affected the Pekan and Kuantan districts in Pahang.
“The UAE Red Crescent will implement the humanitarian initiative via rehabilitation and maintenance works,” he said.
According to the statement, the aid in the form of basic necessities which would be procured in the local market is expected to benefit more than 100,000 affected Malaysians.
“It is hoped with this aid, they will be able to return home and continue their normal lives,” he said. — Bernama
