KEMAMAN, Dec 13 — There is a shortage of some important food items in flood-hit Kemaman. The prices of some items have also gone up.
“We’re low on instant noodles and cooking oil,” said Mohd Syukri Samsuri, 26, who has been operating a sundry shop here for three years.
“The prices of vegetables and fish have also gone up.”
Syukri said he could only get rice delivered to his shop yesterday even though it had reopened on Monday.
He said although he had lost tens of thousands of ringgit worth of goods, he was doing brisk business despite being short handed.
“My four employees have not yet turned up for work since the floods began,” he said.
Muhamad Rani Ibrahim, 46, who supplies rice to Mohd Syukri’s shop, said he had not been able to fulfill the entire order because the store had not properly cleaned.
“Today is the first time after the floods that I am able to send some supplies,” he said.
Rani has also suffered losses after his workplace was flooded.
“This is by far the worst floods we’ve ever had.”
