KUANTAN, Dec 7 — Raub has become the ninth district to relocate flood victims in Pahang, bringing the total number in the state exceeding 40,000 as at 10pm tonight.
According to Pahang police contingent headquarters flood operations room spokesman, all the victims were placed at 121 evacuation centres involving 141 inundated villages.
“Kuantan is still having the largest number with 34,635 flood victims in 38 evacuation centres,” he told Bernama here today.
Pekan has 2,887 flood victims in 26 evacuation centres, Temerloh (847 victims in 22 centres), Jerantut (607 victims in 11 centres), Maran (764 in nine centres), Bera (123 in eight centres), Rompin (53 in four centres), Lipis (53 in four centres) and Raub (39 in three centres).
In JOHOR BARU,the number of flood victims in Johor is decreasing with 1,221 people from 321 families still housed at 17 evacuation centres as at tonight compared to 1,538 people from 403 families this afternoon.
Johor police contingent headquarters flood operations room spokesman said as at 8pm, there were 582 people (145 families) still placed at nine evacuation centres in Segamat while 218 flood victims (64 families) were still at four evacuation centres in Batu Pahat.
“There were 413 people (110 families) at three evacuation centres in Pontian while in Ledang, there were eight people (two families) at one centre,” he said when contacted here today.
The spokesman said one evacuation centre in Kluang and two centres in Kota Tinggi were closed as at 6pm when water subsided in the affected areas.
He said the flood victims who were allowed to go home comprised 20 from four families in Kampung Melayu Batu 4 near Paloh and 97 people from 24 families in Kampung Mawai Baru and Kampung Perpat.
The flood affected areas in Segamat were Kampung Sanglang, Kampung Paya Dalam, Kampung Awat, Kampung Pogoh 2, Kampung Batu Badak, Kampung Tandong and Kampung Spang Loi.
In Batu Pahat, the flooded areas included Koris, Kampung Parit Haji Kamisan, Parit Lapis as well as Kampung Linau Kechil; Pontian involved Parit Stan and Tampuk Laut while in Ledang, Kampung Kundang Ulu was still flooded.
In KOTA BARU, as of 9pm, the total number of flood victims in Kelantan has dropped to 1,613, as compared to 1,796 yesterday evening.
According to the state government portal, the victims comprised residents in the Pasir Mas district whereby, in Rantau Panjang 612 families were still sheltered at seven relief centres, namely in Kubang Gadong, Alor Pasir and Gual Periok.
The water level at Sungai Golok in Rantau Panjang at 9pm, was also receding but was still at 9.87 metres which was above the nine-metre danger level.
Water levels in other rivers were reported to have come down to normal levels and the weather tonight is fair.
Meanwhile, the Kelantan Government will channel a RM50,000 contribution to assist flood victims in the state.— Bernama
