SHAH ALAM, Nov 22 — The election for the 18-seat PAS central committee, which had been scheduled for today, has been postponed due to mistakes in the ballot papers.

The party’s election chairman, Asmuni Awi, when announcing this, said for today, the election would only be for the deputy president and vice-president posts.

The election for the 18 posts in the central committee, involving 61 candidates, would be held tomorrow, he added.

As had been planned, PAS began its election process for all the posts in the party’s central committee today, involving 1,300 delegates nationwide, but it was halted about 30 minutes later when the Election Committee realised the mistake in the ballot papers and then decided to postpone the election.

According to Asmawi, candidates who had cast their votes would also be required to vote tomorrow.

In today’s election, incumbent deputy president, Mohamad Sabu, is being challenged by Kelantan Deputy Mentri Besar Datuk Nik Mohd Amar Nik Abdullah for the party’s number two post.

President Datuk Seri Abdul Hadi Awang retained the post uncontested, while for the three party’s vice-president posts, incumbents Datuk Husam Musa, Datuk Mahfuz Omar and Salahuddin Ayub are defending their post against Information chief Datuk Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man and central committee member Datuk Abu Bakar Chik.

The results of the election will be announced tomorrow. — Bernama
