GEORGE TOWN, Sept 23 — The wish of Corporal Zal-Azri Abdul Somad’s to hold a thanksgiving ceremony for his youngest son on Hari Raya Haji goes unfulfilled when he was killed in Ops Lejang in Melaka today.
His mother Zaiton Ismail, 54, who was shocked after receiving news of his death from his wife Atiqah Mohd Rosdi, 29, at 9am, said Zal-Azri, 31, her second son, did voice his wish to hold an ‘akikah’ when he came back in August.
“He told me about wanting to come home to hold the akikah for his youngest child. Zal-Azri was a good son and well-liked by family members and neighbours. I am sad but I accept his demise,” she said when met at her house here today.
Meanwhile, Zal Azri’s eldest brother Nirmaryadi, 36, said Zal-Azri had been a policeman for seven years and was posted to Melaka after his training.
Melaka police chief SAC Datuk Chua Ghee Lye said Zal-Azri was found unconscious, with injuries on his head, face and body, 25 metres from where he was believed to have grappled with a suspect at Cheng Technology Park here.
He said the suspect ran off after the incident but was detained in Krubong today at 10.50am.
Zal-Azri’s remains were expected to be buried at the Sungai Gelugor cemetery tonight. — Bernama
