KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 21 — There was a slight furore during the submission of nomination forms for the 2013 Umno election at the Putra World Trade Centre here today when a challenger to the Umno Youth chief’s post made a dare.
In an apparent attempt to grab media attention, Pusat Bandar Taman Chempaka Umno branch assistant secretary Syed Rosli Syed Harman Jamalullail took an oath (sumpah laknat) before the Quran to avoid from corrupt practices if he was became Umno Youth chief.
“I also challenge Umno Youth chief Khairy Jamaluddin and the Umno Youth line-up to also swear if they are clean leaders,” he told reporters here today.
Syed Rosli, 37, claimed the movement under Khairy’s (picture) leadership is weak and smeared with corruption.
“Don’t lead Umno if you are not clean. The people see Umno as corrupted. I am an ordinary member but I am fed up with the antics of Umno Youth. I offer myself to contest for the youth chief’s post because I want to see youths as having greater courage and to prove Umno is sincere in fighting for the lot of the people,” he said.
The Umno election would see 24 posts contested at the youth movement level comprising permanent chairman, deputy permanent chairman, youth chief, vice-youth chief and 20 excos.
The delegates meeting and Umno Wanita, Youth and Puteri wing elections and the election for the central excos for all three wings will be carried out simultaneously on October 12. — Bernama
