TAWAU, Sept 5 — About 15,000 people are expected to attend the Sabah Merdeka Concert here on Saturday in conjunction with the 50th anniversary of the state’s independence through Malaysia.
Tawau Municipal Council (MPK) president Datuk Ismail Mayakob said the concert, which would be held at the MPK’s compound here, would start at 7 pm.
He said it would feature local artist Jimmy Palikat and others from the peninsula.
The celebration kicks off with a patriotic run at the municipal field at 6.30am.
About 4,000 participants from the Tawau District taking part in the race will be flagged off by State Youth and Sports Minister Datuk Tawfiq Abu Bakar Titingan.
Tawfiq will later flag off a Merdeka expedition involving 40 vehicles at the same venue. – Bernama
