KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 16 — The Malaysian Relief Agency (MRA) today launched the Syrian Humanitarian Fund to help refugees in the strife-torn country.
MRA president Datuk Dr Abdul Razak Kechik said the funds were to help the displaced Syrians with basic food and medical supplies.
“We are collaborating with the Jordanian Medical Science Society, Federation of Islamic Medical Associations and Syrian Doctors Forum Association to facilitate our entry to both Syria and Jordan in order to distribute the aid ourselves,” he said during a press conference to launch the fund at the Al-Islam Specialist Hospital in Kampung Baru here today.
He said so far they had RM100,000, which did not include pledges from individuals and companies.
The MRA delegation and representatives from the Al-Islam Specialist Hospital will leave for Syria and Jordan on Sept 8, led by Abdul Razak.
The public may donate to the Syrian Humanitarian Fund by cheque payable to “Malaysian Relief Agency” or cash through their Maybank Islamic Berhad account 564098206365. – Bernama
