VLADIVOSTOK, Aug 17 — An Amur tiger in Primorye, Russia’s Far East, snatched a camera trap set up by German wildlife photographer Sascha Fonseca from a cave, with the "crime” captured on video, the Amur Tiger Centre said, reported Sputnik/RIA Novosti.
"What was yours is now ours. In Primorsky Martime Region, an Amur tiger entered a cave where wildlife photographer Sascha Fonseca had set up a camera, stole the expensive equipment, and carried it off to an unknown location,” the centre said.
The centre posted a video on its Telegram channel showing the tiger carrying in its mouth a large camera with its wires torn out of a small cave.
The centre clarified that the incident had occurred in the Lazovsky Nature Reserve.
The Amur tiger is one of the rarest predators on the planet and is listed on the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) Red List of Threatened Species.
In Russia, these cats live in four regions: the Primorsky and Khabarovsk territories, the Amur Region, and the Jewish Autonomous Region.
According to a comprehensive census, there are approximately 750 Amur tigers, including cubs, living in Russia.
German wildlife photographer Fonseca is a multiple winner of international photo competitions, including the Russian Geographical Society's "Most Beautiful Country” competition.
In 2024, Fonseca captured a newly identified Amur leopard, an endangered species, in the northern part of Land of the Leopard National Park in Primorye. — Bernama/Sputnik/RIA Novosti
