SINGAPORE, Aug 17 — Police are investigating an incident in which a 73-year-old man was allegedly shoved to the ground after he patted a girl on the head at a coffee shop in East Coast, according to The Straits Times.
Police said that they had identified yesterday a 40-year-old man in connection with the alleged assault, which occurred at 50 East Coast Road at about 4.40pm on Aug 15.
They had earlier confirmed that a police report was lodged and investigations were ongoing.
In a Facebook post at 7.14pm on Aug 15, a user named Bei-ing Wanton Noodle said the elderly man was his father and appealed for information on the man who allegedly shoved him to the ground.
The user said his father, who was in his 70s, had difficulty walking and helped out at the stall.
Security camera footage accompanying the post showed the elderly man walking through the coffee shop while holding onto tables on both sides for support.
As he walked past a girl sitting at one of the tables, he patted her on the head. A woman sitting with the girl then pushed his hand away.
A man who had earlier left the table immediately returned and verbally confronted the elderly man before shoving him to the ground.
In another Facebook post at 9.55am on Aug 16, the user thanked members of the public for their concern and for providing information about the incident.
According to the report, police advised members of the public not to speculate about the incident or its circumstances, and to allow them to conduct investigations and establish the facts of the case.
