KUALA LUMPUR, June 29 — After couple of previews, Denza Malaysia has finally confirmed that the Denza Z9 GT will officially launch in Malaysia on July 15. It will become Denza’s third model in Malaysia after the D9 luxury MPV and the recently launched B8 plug-in hybrid SUV.
Unlike the Z9 GT that has been showcased in Malaysia previously, Malaysian buyers will be getting the latest version equipped with BYD’s second-generation Blade Battery and 1,000V high-voltage architecture.
This makes it the first BYD Group model in Malaysia that supports the latest Flash Charge technology, capable of insanely quick top up of 10-70 per cent in just 5 minutes.
Malaysia gets BYD’s latest Gen 2 Blade Battery with Flash Charge
The biggest update for the new Z9 GT is BYD’s second-generation LFP Blade Battery.
With a capacity of 122.49kWh, the new battery is said to deliver 5 per cent higher energy density than the first-generation Blade Battery while supporting BYD’s 1,000V electrical architecture.
This enables BYD Flash Charge, allowing the battery to charge from 10 per cent to 70 per cent in just five minutes, or from 10 per cent to 97 per cent in nine minutes under compatible charging conditions.
To support the new DC fast charging technology, BYD Malaysia has confirmed that it will be deploying BYD Flash Charge DC chargers capable of delivering up to 1,500kW, starting at Denza showrooms nationwide.
The company also said it intends to expand Flash Charge infrastructure beyond its dealerships, subject to Malaysia’s charging ecosystem and policy readiness. In addition, the Flash Charge stations will be open to all brands, not just limited to BYD and Denza vehicles.
On a full charge, the Malaysian-spec Z9 GT is expected to offer around 600km of WLTP-rated driving range.
Triple-motor AWD with 850kW (1,140hp)
Positioned as Denza Malaysia’s flagship EV, the Z9 GT is offered in a sleek shooting brake body style and will be available here exclusively with the e³ Platform featuring a triple-motor all-wheel drive powertrain.
The front axle uses a 230kW (308hp) motor producing 410Nm, while two independently controlled rear motors deliver a combined 620kW (831hp) and 800Nm. Together, the system produces 850kW (1,140hp) and 1,210Nm of torque.
The Z9 GT has a claimed 0-100km/h time of just 2.7 seconds and an electronically limited top speed of 240km/h.
Rear-wheel steering enables crab walk and compass turn
Beyond outright performance, the Z9 GT also features an active rear-wheel steering system with independent control. The feature allows the rear wheels to steer by up to 15 degrees.
This reduces the turning circle to just 4.62m, making this 5,180mm long EV (with 3,125mm wheelbase) significantly easier to manoeuvre.
Beyond that, the system also enables several distinctive driving functions, including Crab Mode, where all four wheels steer in the same direction for diagonal movement.
There’s also a “Pencil Compass Turn”, which allows the car to pivot into a tight parking space by independently rotating the rear wheels while the front wheels remain locked.
Ride comfort is handled by BYD’s DiSus-A dual-chamber air suspension with continuously variable damping.
According to BYD Malaysia, the Malaysian-spec model will receive European suspension and damping tuning.
Ground clearance can be adjusted from 100mm at its lowest setting to 145mm at maximum height, while the standard ride height is 120mm.
Premium cabin with massage seats for all four occupants
Inside, the Z9 GT gets a premium cabin finished with natural wood veneer, a knitted fleece headliner and genuine leather upholstery.
All four main seats come with heating, ventilation and massage functions, as well as four zone climate control. Meanwhile, the driver’s seat also features a Dynamic Bolster System that automatically provides additional side support during spirited driving.
The Z9 GT interior comes with a 13.2″ 2.5K digital instrument cluster, a 17.3″ 2.5L central display and a 13.2″ 2.5K display for the front passenger. Also equipped is a 50″ AR-HUD, a 9.1″ digital rearview mirror and a 6″ LCD screen for the rear for climate controls.
For audio, the Z9 GT is fitted with a 20-speaker Devialet sound system, complemented by multi-colour ambient lighting.
Other highlights include a built-in 4-litre fridge capable of storing up to six soft drink cans, a 495-litre rear boot and a 53-litre front trunk.
