KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 22 — An American tourist apologised after he released cannabis smoke in public with a fogging machine in Phuket, Thailand.
The man, who has since left the country, told police that he owned a cannabis shop in the US and wanted to promote it by recording a clip of him using the machine to emit the smoke.
In the clip, the man, identified only as Angkhan, was wearing a black balaclava to conceal his face while committing the act at Bangla Road on Friday.
Despite that, Patong police still managed to track Angkhan down at a hotel, The Thaiger reported.
“I am sorry for what I had done. I did not think it through. I love Thailand,” he reportedly said.
Under Thailand’s Public Health Act, anyone caught smoking cannabis in a public place which causes annoyance and danger to others will result in imprisonment of up to three months.
They are also liable to a fine of up to 25,000 baht (RM3,312), or both.
Bangkok Post reported that Angkhan, 55, had been released after police warned him of his stunt.
He left the country on Saturday.
