KUALA LUMPUR, Apr 11 — The wait is finally over.

You can now book the Proton X90 at all Proton 3S/4S service centres.

The seven-seater SUV is the flagship of Proton’s X range, sitting on top of the X50 and X70 SUVs.

Built with mild hybrid power, a first for Proton, the X90 pairs a 48V electric motor synergy (EMS) system with the 1.5L TGDi engine.

A combo designed to improve fuel efficiency, reduce emissions, improve performance and deliver a smoother driving experience, it was based on the Geely Haoyue but comes with a different grille and headlamp design.

Also new are the three safety features of rear collision warning which alerts the driver about potential rear-end collisions, rear cross traffic alert which detects approaching vehicles while reversing using the rear radar sensor and traffic sign information which detects and displays road signs.

Specifications of the X90 are available in 4 different 1.5 TGDI BSG variants with the 7-seater in standard, executive and premium.

The 6-seater version, which features a more luxurious layout and a panoramic glass roof, is reserved for the flagship variant.

The X90 will compete with three-row SUVs such as the Mazda CX-8 and Hyundai Santa Fe and its size is between the two.

City preview sessions in six cities started on Apr 8 and are by invitation only.

Sessions at Johor and Pahang will be held on Apr 15 and 16 while for Sabah and Sarawak, it’s Apr 29 and 30.
