KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 1 — Forget overpriced, flamboyant and uncomfortable costumes, it's time to embrace 'Jimi' Halloween.

In 2014, the Japanese subculture which roughly translates to “mundane Halloween” from its original name was started by a small group of adults at Daily Portal Z.

They were people "who kind of wanted to participate in the festivities of Halloween, but were too embarrassed to go all out in witch or zombie costumes.”

Hence, the resulting celebration of the most boring, plain outfits that are average hum-drum efforts, that overcompensated in creativity.

The annual event has since become a tradition for attendees of the annual event, who revel in explaining their costumes to one another.

Here are Malay Mail's picks of this year's cream of the crop of 'Jimi' Halloween:

Elon Musk - let that sink in!

The Twitter staff that just got fired by Elon Musk

That random person in a crowd asking a question in an anime

Basic free game avatars with that one random special item

Impulsive shopper who didn't really want to buy anything at Ikea

Google Street View in action

That person engrossed in their mobile game on the train

That person reading on the train

The friend who helped with the 'effects' for the wedding photo that was Photoshopped out

That awkward moment when someone else wears the same outfit

The person who wants to get just that one final squeeze to finish the toothpaste

When you open a bottle of Coke that has been shaken
