NEW YORK, July 23 — There’s a new sport stacking champion in town, and his name is William Orrell.
Orrell completed a complicated cycle of cup stacking manoeuvres in just five seconds, setting a new world record in the unusual sport. It took him three attempts to break the record.
Sport stacking, also known as cup stacking or speed stacking, is a competitive individual and team event where competitors compete in stacking specialised plastic cups. (Who knew that was actually a thing?)
In this event, Orrell had to use 12 cups to first create three pyramids of three, six and three cups. Then he unstacked all the cups and created two pyramids of six cups each. He unstacked the pyramids again and put two aside, using the remaining ten cups to create the last pyramid, and he did all this in five seconds. Impressive!
