KUALA LUMPUR, July 9 — Shoppers at Isetan KLCC are in for a treat. From tomorrow till August 13, 2015 exquisite bags, stationery and various other desirables designed by the Queen of Prints Lisette Scheers will be available at the Nala pop-up store there.

Called the “Isetan-talising Nala Pop-Up” you will not only be able to shop for Isetan-only specials such as the new reversible Box Totes in 12 Nala Designs prints, fabric-covered books, a wrapping paper book, and personalised exercise books, you can also enjoy coffee and cakes from their Bangsar cafe, DR.Inc.

If you’ve been to the cafe which also houses the Nala concept shop, you will be familiar with the array of beautiful products artistically (and strategically) displayed to tempt you at every turn. Expect more of the same at the pop-up.

The price ranges from RM11 to RM837 for the stationery and homeware items. All customers will receive a 20 per cent discount for stationery purchases while Isetan card members will receive a 10 per cent off all products (including an additional 10 per cent for stationery).

For Isetan card members, purchases above RM300 in a single receipt will entitle them to a free personalised exercise book.

“At the pop-up, I will be silk-screening custom greeting cards where people can choose the colours and designs they want. During the silkscreening demonstration, customers can also personalise any item they like with five pre-made screens,” said Lisette.

Some of the pre-made screens include Nala Designs’ colourful renditions of kueh lapis, the ubiquitous palm tree, and the iconic Petronas Twin Towers. Especially fun are designs which pay tribute to some Malaysian childhood favourites like Milo and Haw flakes.

Every Friday and Saturday (12pm to 2pm), she will also conduct a “live” silkscreening demonstration and a calligraphy station. It’s a wonderful opportunity to see her at work.

Customers can also get their Nala Designs items personalised at the calligraphy station.

“The golden thread that makes Nala Designs special is that the items are all handmade and that gives the brand an added value. When we had a showroom in Japan, I was handwriting names on items my customers bought and they went ‘kawaii!’ (cute in Japanese) every five seconds,” said Lisette.

During that recent trip to Japan, she noticed that customers were drawn to handmade items. When the owner and founder of the brand is seen hand-making the product at the place it is sold, people were especially appreciative.

That is when she got the idea to have the “live” silkscreen demonstrations and calligraphy station at the Isetan KLCC pop-up event.

The Japan trip gave Lisette an insight into what customers liked and some of the Nala Designs products were tweaked. One example is the sketchbook, which was changed from a hard cover to a fabric cover.

“I think having the ‘live’ silkscreen demonstration is cool because it is about the experience. It is too easy to just open a pop-up selling just merchandise. We want to offer coffee, cakes and a ‘live’ demonstration. There’s more to just shopping,” said Scheers.
