PARIS, Nov 17 — Castel Freres has been named the largest still wine brand in the world.
According to a report from the UK-based group International Wine and Spirits Research, Castel Freres was able to maintain its position at the top of the charts for the second year in a row, despite strong gains from other brands.
In 2016, the brand sold 24.9 million 9-litre cases. Their top export market was the Netherlands.
Castel Group is also the owner of the largest chain of specialist wine stores in France, Nicolas.
Not far behind, California’s The Wine Group sold 24.5 million 9-litre cases of Franzia, while E&J Gallo’s Barefoot rounded out the podium at 22.5 million 9-litre cases.
Analysts call Barefoot the biggest US-based winner for posting 6 per cent growth worldwide.
