PETALING JAYA, Oct 20 — For as long as I remember, Restoran O & S has charmed all of us with its assortment of Penang eats and much more, making it a place I visit all the time.

My standard order is a plate of prawn paste chee cheong fun and this crispy apam balik

Unlike the other stalls, some which have been around for 40 years, Pam Pam Crepe is relatively new.

As each crispy pancake is made only upon order, maintaining its crunchy edges, it can take up to 30 minutes or more to get your hands on this snack.

So just before you order your savoury eats, make sure you place your apam balik order first.

With the queue of orders ahead, it’ll be ready just after you have eaten your char kway teow or assam laksa, making it a perfect way to end your meal.

Those who order a takeaway usually hover at the side of the stall, waiting patiently for the order to be fulfilled.

The takeaway is packed in a brown paper bag, allowing you to munch on-the-go, allowing all the fallen ingredients to be caught in the confines of the bag.

Dine-in pancakes are placed in paper containers, allowing you to slowly relish every piece.

With 42 choices listed on the signboard, one can aim to try every topping for the crispy apam balik

Usually my default choice is Peanut and Sweet Corn (RM3) as I enjoy the well toasted peanuts and creamy corn niblets combination.

What I also like is that this stall doesn’t mix the toasted peanuts with sugar, which tend to make it too sweet for my liking.

On another day, I went for a crowd favourite of Peanut with Coconut and Sweet Corn (RM5).

The toppings are so generous, I ended up scooping them with a piece of the crunchy pancake.

Aside from the usual peanut, coconut and sweet corn flavours, the stall also caters to savoury flavours with spicy chicken floss and cheese.

There’s also bananas being ideal bed fellows with chocolate and even cheese!

As table space is scarce in this forever busy coffee shop, one needs to share tables with strangers.

Once after I got my prized apam balik laden with goodies, it sparked off a random conversation with the woman who was sharing my table

She was curious about the pancake, asking how much it was and feeling left out she didn’t order the snack, as she told me, “With good food you need to wait.”
