SINGAPORE, Aug 24 — A 57-year-old man died in hospital after he was rescued unconscious from a canal in Bukit Timah on Saturday evening, according to The Straits Times.

The Singapore police said they received a call for assistance at Bukit Timah Canal at about 7.25pm, while the Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) was alerted to a water rescue incident near the Wayang Satu Flyover about 20 minutes later.

The Straits Times reported that SCDF rescuers found the man unconscious and floating in the canal when they arrived.

They used a ladder to access the canal before bringing him to safety.

The man was taken unconscious to Tan Tock Seng Hospital, where he later died, according to the authorities.

Police said preliminary investigations found no suspicion of foul play.

Investigations are ongoing.
