SEOUL, Oct 4 — Stray Kids will not be submitting their music for next year’s Grammy Awards, joining BTS in boycotting the event after the Recording Academy confirmed it would proceed with its new Asian Pop category.

JYP Entertainment, the group’s agency, told Billboard and the BBC on Friday that Stray Kids had opted out of the 69th Grammy Awards, scheduled for February 2027, Korea JoongAng Daily reported.

The announcement came after the Academy said it would present the Best Asian Pop Music Performance award as planned.

Stray Kids had been widely tipped as strong contenders, having topped the Billboard 200 album chart nine times. All eight members also hold Grammy voting rights. The BBC reported that the boycott would be a major setback for the Grammys.

The move follows BTS’s earlier decision to withdraw from the awards in protest against the new category.
