TAIPEI, Aug 21 — F4 star Vanness Wu has stepped in to defend his new wife Emi Aramaki after the Japanese singer found herself facing online claims that she had lied about both her age and educational background.
The 47-year-old Taiwanese-American singer, who announced his marriage to Aramaki in June, issued a formal clarification after questions began circulating over how old she is and whether she had attended University College London (UCL).
According to Taiwanese media Next Apple News, the controversy began after a reader claimed Aramaki had been described as a 35-year-old UCL graduate, but alleged that alumni were unable to find a record of her.
Photos reportedly showing Aramaki at social gatherings with students from leading British universities, including the University of Cambridge and King’s College London, in 2015 and 2016 also began circulating online.
The tipster questioned why there appeared to be few publicly available photos or other traces of Aramaki’s own university life or graduation, fuelling allegations that she had fabricated her academic qualifications.
Her age then came under scrutiny after a photograph purportedly showing her at a high school prom in 2013 surfaced online.
The tipster argued that if Aramaki were 35 this year, she would have been around 22 at the time — raising questions over the timeline.
Wu has now rejected the claims in a statement released through B’in Music.
“The recent claims made by the tipster and circulating online that (Aramaki) ‘lied about her age’ and ‘falsified her academic qualifications’ are not true,” the statement read.
He also revealed that Aramaki is 31, rather than 35 as previously reported.
“Her actual age is 31, and she graduated from University College London. The relevant information can be verified,” he said.
“This formal clarification is to set the record straight. We hope this matter can end here. Thank you, everyone, for your concern.”
Wu and Aramaki registered their marriage in Las Vegas in May, before he announced the news on social media the following month.
It is Wu’s second marriage. He was previously married to Singaporean heiress Arissa Cheo from 2013 until 2018.
Aramaki was born in Fukuoka and reportedly moved to London when she was nine.
She returned to Japan in 2024 to pursue a music career, releasing her first Japanese-language single, Purple Dream, that same year.
