KUALA LUMPUR, July 17 — Spider-Man is set to swing across the city skyline as Sony Pictures Malaysia prepares a massive light show to celebrate the upcoming release of Spider-Man: Brand New Day.
The free public event will descend upon Raintree Plaza at The Exchange TRX for two nights on July 24 and 25. The spectacle begins at 8:30 pm on both evenings, offering fans a chance to experience the web-slinger's presence in the heart of the city.
The activation serves as a high-energy countdown to the film’s Malaysian premiere on July 30. Raintree Plaza, known for its open-air layout and stunning views of the city's skyscrapers, has become the go-to venue for large-scale entertainment events.
While the specific details of the display remain under wraps, the scale suggests a visual feast for the city's Marvel enthusiasts.
Spider-Man: Brand New Day marks the fourth solo outing for Tom Holland as Peter Parker. It picks up after the seismic events of 2021’s Spider-Man: No Way Home, which became a global phenomenon by earning US$1.921 billion (RM7.82 billion). That previous instalment famously united three generations of Spider-Man actors, bringing Holland together with Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield in a multiverse collision.
The new film is expected to delve into the fallout of Peter Parker's ultimate sacrifice. At the end of No Way Home, Parker allowed the world to forget his identity to protect those he loved, leaving him to navigate a lonely new chapter.
Holland returns to the lead role, joined by Zendaya as MJ and Jacob Batalon as Ned Leeds. The movie also introduces fresh faces to the cast as the Marvel Cinematic Universe expands its horizons.
The franchise continues to be a juggernaut for Sony Pictures, with Holland’s first three standalone films collectively raking in US$3.91 billion (RM15.96 billion) worldwide.
