KUALA LUMPUR, Dec 16 — Award-winning Malaysian singer-songwriter and composer Amir Jahari is ending his year with a bang as he will be performing at the closing ceremony of the SEA Games Thailand 2025.

The 33-year-old Hasrat singer is set to deliver a 10-minute performance alongside fellow Malaysian singers Mimifly and Marsha Milan at the Rajamangala Stadium in Bangkok, Thailand on December 20.

“The reason I’m looking forward to this is because, firstly, I’ve never been to Bangkok before.

“Second is of course the stage itself — it may not be the Olympics, but it is still a big stage and I am really keen to experience it myself,” Amir told Malay Mail

Apart from being one of the main performers, Amir was also in charge of the music arrangements for the show, assisted by his Sekalo Music Production team members, sound engineers Haziq Harith and Adlan Syahin.

He shared that Haziq was the person helming the recordings of the performance while Adlan is in charge of harmonising and vocal arrangements for the show.

Amir, who is from Kuching, will also be performing a special rendition of Dondang Sayang which he said will carry a Sarawakian touch.

Dondang Sayang is a traditional art form blending music and improvised, poetic pantun (poetry) exchanges between performers and it is also recognised by Unesco as part of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity since 2018.

“Nobody has done this before, and I can say that I will be the first one to do this kind of rendition,” he said.

Although blending in the Dondang Sayang with Sarawakian music was a challenge at first, Amir said that he and his team had managed to complete the job in less than five days.

Aside from being joined by Mimifly and Marsha, a total of 60 dancers will accompany them on stage during the closing ceremony performance.

The SEA Games Thailand 2025 closing ceremony will also serve as the flag handover ceremony to Malaysia as Malaysia is set to host the 34th SEA Games in 2027.

Previously, the Youth and Sports deputy minister Adam Adli said that Malaysia has sent a total of 1,166 athletes to compete in the SEA Games Thailand 2025, marking the largest contingent ever from Malaysia at the biennial Games.
