KUALA LUMPUR, June 22 — Taiwanese television presenter Nono Chen is leaving the entertainment industry after accusations of sexual harassment and assault were levelled against him.
The decision came following a claim by social media influencer Anisa that she was sexually harassed by the 52-year-old in his car and she was not the only victim as there were some 20 other women who confided in her that they suffered a similar fate.
Anisa had earlier dropped the bomb via a social media post on Tuesday which was swiftly denied by Chen who issued a statement saying he had no recollection of the woman nor the alleged incident.
"I am willing to admit it if I did something wrong, but how do I respond to things I don’t remember,” UDN reported.
He, however, admitted to his wrongdoing when Anisa appeared in a press conference on Wednesday to repeat the accusations.
According to Anisa, all the victims were not seeking compensation but an apology.
In a statement issued via his social media, Chen said he would stop working in the entertainment industry.
He added he would take the time to "sincerely and deeply reflect on myself”.
Chen is the latest prominent figure to be accused of sexual harassment, which was said to have been started by Netflix show Wave Makers.
In the show, there was a scene where a young female aide reveals to her mentor that she had been sexually harassed by a male colleague, Channel News Asia reported.
Besides Chen, veteran Taiwanese host Mickey Huang, actors Chris Wang, Jeffrey Hsu and Aaron Yan also faced similar allegations.
