Five arrested, police hunting eight more suspects over alleged arson at Sarawak convenience stores

KUCHING, Oct 9 — Police are tracking down eight more suspects in connection with alleged arson attacks on convenience stores in several districts late last month.

Acting Sarawak Police Commissioner DCP Saifullizan Ishak said five suspects had been arrested in connection with the case.

“Those having information regarding the case may contact investigating officer Insp Tan Chiang Fook at 018-2628805, or approach any nearest police station,” he said.

Saifullizan also advised the public to refrain from making speculations that could affect police investigations.

The wanted suspects, aged between 20 and 44, comprise seven locals and one foreign national.

They are Kho Tze Yang, Tan Siong Seng, Tan Seng Ming, Alvin Chung Jia Hao, William Ong Wei Liang, Iwan, Chai Chuan Soon and Kho Tze Hong.

Police received two reports of arson at two convenience stores, reported on Sept 20, in Kuching and in Sri Aman.

The convenience store in Kuching was damaged by fire, although no casualties were reported.

Bukit Aman Management director Datuk Mohamad Zainal Abdullah had also confirmed that the affected stores belonged to the same retail chain. —  The Borneo Post
