KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 26 — Two Bersatu assemblymen in Pahang have thrown their support behind Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Wan Rosdy Wan Ismail of Umno, with the party's top leadership signalling its backing for the move.

Kuala Sentul assemblyman Datuk Jasri Jamaluddin and Lepar assemblyman Datuk Mohd Yazid Mohd Yunus — Bersatu's only two elected representatives in the 42-seat Pahang assembly — signed a memorandum of understanding with Wan Rosdy, pledging their backing for his administration until the next state election, expected by early 2028.

In a media statement issued the same day, Bersatu vice-president Datuk Seri Ahmad Faizal Azumu confirmed that the two ADUNs had informed the party leadership of their intention beforehand and left the final call to the party.

“The Bersatu political bureau, chaired by Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin, president of Bersatu, discussed the matter from all angles and, in principle, supports the action.

“This decision was made to ensure political stability in the state of Pahang and to ensure that the welfare of the people in both of the respective constituencies receives due attention and representation from the Pahang state government,” Ahmad Faizal said.

Jasri and Yazid echoed this reasoning in their own joint statement, saying the understanding reached with the menteri besar would help ensure development and welfare priorities in Kuala Sentul and Lepar are not neglected.

They added that they would continue discharging their duties as elected representatives and cooperate with the state administration, FMT reported.

Wan Rosdy has headed the Pahang state government since a hung assembly emerged from the November 2022 state election. That election left Perikatan Nasional as the single largest bloc, edging out the ruling Barisan Nasional coalition by one seat, but Wan Rosdy was reappointed a week later at the helm of a BN–Pakatan Harapan coalition government.

Bersatu, as part of Perikatan Nasional, had held two of PN's seats in the assembly, alongside 15 from PAS.

With Jasri and Yazid's declared support, Wan Rosdy's administration now commands backing from 27 of the assembly's 42 seats.
