KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 21 — Selected rail and bus services operated by Rapid KL will operate 24 hours on Aug 30 and 31 to facilitate public movement in conjunction with the 2026 National Day celebrations.

Rapid KL in a statement today announced that the extension of operating hours involves all its rail services, namely the Light Rail Transit (LRT), Mass Rapid Transit (MRT) and Kuala Lumpur Monorail.

The frequency of trains on several main routes has also been increased and adjusted according to demand and the current conditions at the station, while additional trains will be deployed if necessary based on monitoring the number of passengers and the level of congestion on the platform.

“The Sunway BRT (Bus Rapid Transit) Line, along with several bus routes and Rapid KL On-Demand (ROD), will also operate 24 hours, providing more travel options to the public throughout the celebration period.

“The extension of operating hours is implemented to ensure smoother movement for the public, especially those attending the Merdeka Eve celebration on the night of Aug 30 and the National Day celebration event in Putrajaya on the morning of Aug 31, 2026,” according to the statement.

To support movement to the location of the celebration in Putrajaya, 103 buses have been provided for free shuttle bus services along two routes, namely MS01 from Putrajaya Sentral Station to Jalan Tun Abdul Razak, Precinct 2, and MS02 from the Putrajaya International Convention Centre (PICC) to Jalan Tun Hussein, Precinct 3.

According to Rapid KL, the MS01 route will operate from 2pm on Aug 30 to 2pm the next day, while the MS02 will operate from 4am to 2pm on Aug 31.

“This free shuttle bus service aims to facilitate public access to the celebration area, while also reducing dependence on private vehicles and helping to alleviate traffic congestion around Putrajaya,” he said.

In addition, Rapid KL announced that more than 5,000 front-line personnel from various units will be deployed in shifts on both days to support service operations, manage crowd movement, and ensure the smooth and safe flow of passengers at stations and focal points.

In this regard, Rapid KL encourages the public to use public transportation to the celebration locations to help reduce traffic congestion, in addition to advising passengers to plan their journeys in advance, ensure their Touch ’n Go card balance is sufficient, and follow the instructions of staff, especially in high-density areas.
