KANGAR, June 10 — The Perlis state government will continue to function as usual pending a decision by the Perikatan Nasional (PN) leadership following PAS’ move to end its political cooperation with Bersatu.
Perlis PN chairman and PAS Perlis deputy commissioner III, Datuk Seri Dr Shahidan Kassim, said efforts to safeguard the welfare of the people would remain the coalition’s priority despite the political uncertainty.
“The priority is the welfare of the people. We remain attentive to their needs and the people are our utmost priority,” said the Arau MP in a video uploaded on Facebook today.
In the 15th General Election (GE15), PN won 14 seats in the Perlis State Legislative Assembly, while Pakatan Harapan (PH), through PKR, secured the remaining seat in Indera Kayangan.
However, on December 25 last year, Perlis State Assembly Speaker Rus’sele Eizan declared the Chuping, Bintong and Guar Sanji seats vacant after PAS terminated the party memberships of the assemblymen representing the three constituencies.
The Perlis state assembly currently comprises six PAS assemblymen, five from Bersatu, and one Pakatan Harapan assemblyman. — Bernama
