KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 15 — Everybody in F&B as well as enthusiastic foodies will be tuned in to the reveal of the first edition of The Michelin Guide Kuala Lumpur & Penang on December 13.

The Bib Gourmand and Star Revelation will be announced at a press conference to be held at the Berjaya Times Square Hotel, Kuala Lumpur.

You can also watch the announcement of the results via a livestream on The Michelin Guide’s YouTube channel or their Facebook Live.

The Bib Gourmand will list restaurants that offer "good quality, good value cooking.” All of the eateries will be subjected to the same criteria practised worldwide where anonymous Michelin inspectors review the cuisine and evaluate only the quality of the dishes using their five criteria.

The criteria covers the quality of the ingredients used, mastery of cooking techniques, the harmony of the flavours, expression of the chef’s personality in the cuisine and consistency, both over time and across the entire menu.

The location, decor, service and available facilities are not part of the selection criteria.

There will also be an invitation-only gala dinner to celebrate the results for the Michelin Guide.

Guests will be feted to a six-course dinner that showcases local ingredients and be prepared by a line-up of chefs from Macau, Singapore, France and Malaysia.

Three chefs from restaurants which have already been awarded the coveted Michelin stars will be participating in the event.

These are Julien Tongourian from Macau’s three-Michelin-starred Robuchon au Dôme, Emmauel Stroobant from Singapore’s two-Michelin-starred Saint Pierre and Malaysian born Liew Shiao Khuen or Kwen Liew from France’s one-Michelin-starred Pertinence.

The 29-year-old Liew also holds the distinction of being the first and only Malaysian female chef whose restaurant has been awarded a Michelin star.

Representing Malaysia will be Darren Teoh from KL’s Dewakan, Zachary Choong from Penang’s Kebaya Dining Room and the duo Lee Zhe Xi and Soh Yong Zhi from KL’s Eat & Cook.
