KUALA LUMPUR, Dec 16 — Canine welfare project Malaysian Dogs Deserve Better (MDDB) is haunted by their mounting veterinary bills as a result of having to help badly injured dogs as well as geriatric and disabled dogs.

MDDB director Irene Low said whenever the organisation gets calls to rescue, the concern would be whether they can afford the veterinary bills.

Luckily for MDDB, clinics like the Gasing Veterinary Medical Centre in Petaling Jaya extend the organisation credit terms.

"If not for Gasing Veterinary Medical Centre, many of the injured dogs would have died without treatment,” she said.

Low added that many times MDDB would receive calls at night asking them to rescue severely injured dogs.

These dogs, she said, had been mowed down by speeding vehicles and end-up with broken backs and limbs.

"There have also been cases of abuse which we had sent to Gasing Veterinary Medical Centre for treatment such as a young female puppy that was splashed with acid.”

With accumulating medical bills, MDDB has started a fundraising project called Project Gasing in the hopes of reducing the mounting debt.

MDDB volunteers will be seated outside of Gasing Veterinary Medical Centre, from 11am to 6pm, starting today, December 16 to Sunday, December 18, to accept donations from well-wishers who wish to help pay off the bills.

"We hope to settle some of the bills in these three days and invoices will be given if anyone wants to help settle any of the bills in full,” said Low.

Donors who want to assist MDDB can make their way to a makeshift counter outside the premises or go into the clinic and pay at the reception.

They will be given a receipt for their payment, said Low.

Those who wish to help but are unable to head to the clinic, can WhatsApp (012-2501497)/ (016-6674193) or write to projectgasingmddb@gmail.com
