KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 26 — A man has been arrested for bringing in two sex dolls dressed in traditional dresses and tiaras into Myanmar's famous Buddhist pilgrimage site at Yangon.
In a statement, the country's Religious Affairs and Culture Ministry said the man and seven others had arrived at the Shwedagon Pagoda with the dolls, which they attempted to bring to the famed golden pagoda’s main platform.
They also brought with them one small doll measuring 17 centimeters in height representing the Surassati goddess.
When security barred them from entering, the group walked around the site before placing the dolls on a pedestal in the shrine’s parking lot, where they performed "ritual incantations”.
It is unclear what the purpose of the ritual was.
The ministry said they would file a case against 26-year-old U Shine Zarni Aung, said to be the group's ringleader, for defaming the Buddhist religion.
Meanwhile, Khit Thit Media reported that the dolls were bought from China and it cost US$2,400 (RM11,342) each.
