ISTANBUL, Oct 22 — One person was killed and eight others injured in an attack late Wednesday on King Fahd International Airport in Dammam, eastern Saudi Arabia, the country’s civil aviation authority said, Anadolu Ajansi reported.

The General Authority of Civil Aviation (GACA) said the injured were immediately taken to the hospital for treatment, with their conditions ranging from minor to severe.

The attack also caused material damage that authorities were still assessing, it added, saying further updates would follow.

The authority did not specify the nature of the attack.

Earlier Wednesday, Saudi Arabia’s Energy Ministry said two people were killed and two others injured by falling debris after air defences intercepted a drone targeting an Aramco facility at the Shaybah oil field in the Eastern Province.

The debris cause a fire in a contractor’s vehicle, but operations at the oil field were unaffected, according to the ministry.

The Saudi-led coalition also announced Wednesday that it intercepted and destroyed five drones launched toward the kingdom, including in the Eastern Province and Medina region.

King Fahd International Airport previously came under attack on October 11, prompting damage assessments and safety inspections.

The incidents came amid escalating hostilities between Yemen’s Houthi group and the Saudi-led coalition, including attacks targeting Saudi airports and energy facilities. — Bernama-Anadolu
