SINGAPORE, March 12 — A 25-year-old van driver will be charged tomorrow in connection with an accident that killed two men and injured six others on the Bukit Timah Expressway (BKE) yesterday.
Eyewitnesses said the van crashed into nine motorcycles parked under the Seletar Expressway (SLE) flyover along the BKE towards Woodlands. TODAY understands that the motorcyclists were seeking shelter from the rain at that time.
The Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) said it was alerted to the incident at around 3.50pm.
SCDF paramedics pronounced two motorcyclists, aged 34 and 50, dead at the scene. The six casualties were sent to Khoo Teck Puat Hospital.
The van driver, a 25-year-old man, was arrested and had his driving licence suspended with immediate effect, the police said. He would be charged on Monday with causing death by a rash act. If convicted, he could be jailed for up to five years, or fined, or both.
The police have urged members of the public not to circulate photos or videos of the deceased out of respect for their families. Investigations are currently ongoing. — TODAY
