SINGAPORE, Aug 23 — A State Funeral Service will be held for S. R. Nathan on Friday at the University Cultural Centre, the Prime Minister’s Office said last night.
As a mark of respect to Singapore’s sixth President, who died last night at 9.48pm, the state flag on all Government buildings will be flown at half-mast from today to Friday.
Nathan’s body will lie in state at the Parliament House from 10am on Thursday to noon on Friday.
The public may pay their last respects at Parliament House from 10am to 8pm on Thursday. The following day, members of the diplomatic corps and other officials may pay their last respects from 9am till noon.
The State Funeral will take place at 4pm on Friday.
It will be attended by Mr Nathan’s family, friends and former colleagues, President Tony Tan, Cabinet Ministers, Members of Parliament, civil servants as well as Singaporeans from all walks of life.
The funeral service will be followed by a private cremation at Mandai Crematorium.
From this morning, condolence boards will be put up at the Istana for people to pen tributes to Nathan.
Condolence books will also be opened at all Overseas Missions for overseas Singaporeans and friends.

The PMO said the Government has accepted the wishes of Nathan and his family in making the funeral arrangements. The Government will provide all the necessary assistance, it added. — TODAY
