SINGAPORE, Sept 7 — Three men aged between 20 and 36 are helping with investigations into cases of defaced election posters, the police said in a statement yesterday.
There have been accounts of several such incidents, which involve different political parties, being circulated online, but the police did not specify which case they are questioning the men about.
Under the Parliamentary Elections Act, it is an offence to alter, remove, destroy, obliterate or deface any election posters or banners.
The punishment for this offence is a fine of up to S$1,000 (RM3,020) or a jail term of up to 12 months.
Last Wednesday, a Sengkang East resident alerted TODAY that at least six posters put up along Sengkang East Way by the People’s Action Party were found torn.
It appeared to be the first instance of mischief in this year’s General Election.
Since then, netizens have been circulating photos of similar incidents in places such as Sengkang West and Aljunied over the past few days. — TODAY
