SINGAPORE, Dec 9 ― Describing the riot at Little India as a “very grave incident”, Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong today said there is “there is no excuse for such violent, destructive, and criminal behaviour”.

“Several police officers were injured, and vehicles damaged or destroyed. The situation is now under control, and investigations are underway,” said Mr Lee in a Facebook post at about 3am.

The riot was sparked by an accident yesterday night on the junction of Race Course Road and Hampshire Road, where a coach knocked down and killed a man.

“We will spare no effort to identify the culprits and deal with them with the full force of the law,” said Mr Lee.

Urging Singaporeans to “stay calm”, Mr Lee added: “Do send the Police any information, photos or videos of the incident that you may have. I also wish the injured officers a full and speedy recovery.” ― Today
